Ronald Reagan Sailors Record Dedications
for Country Network

FOR RELEASE: 5/11/2007

From USS Ronald Reagan Public Affairs

USS RONALD REAGAN, Coronado, CA -- Sailors assigned to USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) were able to record personal greetings and song dedications for the Great American Country (GAC) television network May 10 for a special Memorial Day television show later this month.

A video crew set up near the brow of Ronald Reagan so that Sailors could make requests for the show. The video segments from the Ronald Reagan Sailors will be added to the segments from other Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines from around the country.

GAC is planning to show its support for U.S. troops this Memorial Day with a weekend marathon featuring special music dedications by and for members of the American armed forces.

“It’s important for Great American Country to show our gratitude to our troops,” said show host Nan Kelley. “Broadcasting this show over the Memorial Day weekend is a great way to honor our troops.”

Sailors aboard Ronald Reagan said the event was a unique opportunity to send messages to loved ones back home across the country and hope their messages make the show during the Memorial Day weekend.

“I like country music and I thought it would be interesting to do,” said Electronics Technician 3rd Class (SW/AW) Darcie Copeland.

Seaman Recruit Spencer Oxley said he thought the event would be fun.

“It gives Sailors a different way to say hello to their families back home,” said Oxley.

“I just love country music,” said Master Chief Fire Controlman (SW/AW) Frank Murray. “Being from Texas I grew up listening to country.”

GAC, available in more than 40 million households, features a large variety of country music and artists. In addition to country music videos, GAC features original programming, special musical performances and live concerts.

Ronald Reagan is currently undergoing a planned incremental availability in her homeport of San Diego.
